The "Hotel Adlon" was opened in 1907 and soon became the most famous hotel in Berlin. Emperors and Kings stayed at the "Adlon" and attracted other international stars. In 1945, the house burnt down and was demolished after the war. The hotel was rebuilt in 1997 and immediately returned to the classy hotel of the international jet set of pre war times.

The Swiss César Ritz was a sought-after hotel specialist who built numerous luxury hotels in Europe, including the "Carlton" and "Savoy" hotels in London, the Frankfurter Hof in Frankfurt and the "Grand Hotel" in Rome. In 1893 he built his first hotel in Paris, called "Le Ritz" at Place Vendôme. The Berlin "Ritz-Carlton" was opened in 2004. It is located in a 70 m high building at Potsdamer Platz. The architects Hilmer & Sattler and Albrecht designed the building in the style of former high-rise buildings of Chicago.
