The most famous museum in the Ruhr region has wonderful works of impressionism, the "Blaue Reiter", "Brücke" and "Bauhaus" artists with Feininger, Klee and Kandinsky in it's permanent exhibition.
You will reach the "Ruhr Museum" at "Zeche Zollverein" by a long escalator. In the former coal washing facility there is now a museum about the history of industrialization of the Ruhr region.

The "German Mining Museum" was erected on the grounds of the Bochum slaughterhouse in 1930. There was never a mine at this place, but there is a 2.5 km long mining shaft, built for the museum. The exhibition shows the history of extraction of raw materials. In 2009 the museum was extended by a building called "black diamond".
In the historic watertower of Mühlheim, there is now a museum dealing with the topic of water purification. Here you can learn how water becomes drinking water and how a sewage treatment plant works.
The sculpture museum bears the name of Duisburg sculptor Wilhelm Lehmbruck, a prominent representative of classical modernism. The Lehmbruck Museum was designed by his son.

The Jewish Museum in Dorsten shows the history of the Jews in Westphalia. One gets an insight into the religion, the history of the Jews and the Jewish life in the region. Temporary exhibitions also deal with the Jews in Germany and around the world.

The "LVR-Römer Museum" was erected as a protective structure above the foundations of the Roman baths and shows the most important finds of the former Roman city of Colonia Ulpia Traiana (Xanten).
