The Khmer Rouge

The Khmer Rouge was a communist terror organization that came to power in 1975. They wanted to transform the state into a backward agrarian society. Intellectuals and opponents of the revolution were tortured in the "Tuol-Sleng" prison or murdered in the "Killing-Fields". All intellectuals were killed, an intellectual was someone who could read or speak French. The leader of the cruel peasant warriors was "Pol Pot". Under his leadership, about 2 million Cambodians were killed. In 1978, Vietnam liberated the country from the Khmer Rouge, but they continued to tyrann the country underground. Pol Pot died in 1998, most likely committed suicide or was poisoned.
