The monumental town hall of Florence, was built in 1314. The Medici Cosimo I moved to Palazzo Pitti in 1559, since then the building is called "Palazzo Vecchio" (ancient palace). In the council chamber "Salone dei Cinquecento" you can see frescoes by Leonardo da Vinci and Michelangelo. Also worth a visit is the "Sala delle Carte", with historic globes and ancient maps.
The Uffizi Gallery ranks among the most famous museums in the world. You will find paintings by Leonardo da Vinci, Titian, Bellini and many others. The highlights of the exhibition is the "Birth of Venus" by Botticelli.
Palazzo Pitti is the former residence of the Medici and houses today the museums Galleria d'Arte Moderna, Galleria dell Costume, Museo degli Argenti, Palatine Gallery and the Museo delle Porcellane.
Formerly the palace belonged to the "Capitano del Popolo", today it is the home of the National Museum. The museums exhibition shows art by Donatello, Luca della Robbia, Michelangelo and other great masters.
