National Museum Warsaw

After Poland gained independence in 1918, the establishment of a national museum was a priority. The Polish National Museum opened in Warsaw in 1938. The collection was transfered from the Museum of Fine Arts. The "Muzeum Narodowe" is now the largest art museum in Poland. The National Museum shows Polish and international artists. There is also a Coin Collection and a section of the Military Museum that exhibits fighter planes, helicopters and tanks in the garden. Historical Museum of Warsaw

The Historical Museum of Warsaw is located in several houses in the rebuilt Old Town. The reconstructed houses have been connected and are home to numerous objects from Warsaw's long history. The exhibition uses facts and figures to explain how and why Warsaw became the city we see today. The Warsaw Museum (Muzeum Warszawy) documents the history of the city through photos, postcards, architectural details and many other interesting objects.

Archäologisches Museum Warschau

The State Archaeological Museum of Warsaw (Panstwawe Muzeum Archeologiczne w Warszawie) is located in a former weapons arsenal from 1643. The Archaeological Museum was founded in 1923 and displays the country's prehistoric finds. Since the borders of Poland have shifted several times, there are also finds from former Polish areas in the collection.

There is an open-air museum in Biskupin, a Bronze Age settlement was rebuilt there. The village is situated between Bydgoszcz and Poznan. There is a child-friendly exhibition on this topic in the Warsaw Archaeological Museum.

Marie Curie Museum

Maria Sklodowska was born 1867 in this house in Warsaw. Because it was not possible for women to study in occupied Poland, she went to Paris in 1891 to study physics at the "Sorbonne". In 1895, she married the French physicist Pierre Curie, with whom she explored radioactivity. Together with Henri Becquerel, they received the Nobel Prize for Physics in 1903. The Muzeum Maria Sklodowska-Curie shows the history of this unique scientist, that is better known as Marie Curie.
