Palacio de La Moneda

The former minting house was built in 1786, this is the origin of the name "La Moneda". Later it was used as a government palace (Palacio de Gobierno). The "Palacio de La Moneda" became famous as Augusto Pinochet attacked the building in 1973 and became the dictator of Chile. Where the Calle Huérfanos meets the 69-meter-high hill, there is a lift up to the Castillo Hidalgo.
