The "Musee d'art contemporain de Montreal" was founded in 1965 to build a collection of contemporary art. The museum mainly promotes and collects art from Quebec but works by international artists are also part of the exhibition.
The building was erected in 1705 by the governor of Montreal Claude de Ramezay as his residence. Today it is one of the few buildings from the early days of the French colony. There are also beautiful gardens which belong to the historic complex.
