On top of the Alhambra is a very beautiful cloister garden with many small fountains and ponds. The garden does not follow a strict layout, but is adaped to the topography. It is like a collection of small gardens.
The way towards the "Generalife" leads through the lower gardens. This garden is divided into small spaces by hedges, which offer repeatedly new views. In the central axis of a long water basin merges into flowerbeds.
The "Generalife" consists of two parts, the "Patio de la Acequia", a yard with a long water basin and the "Jardim del Ciprés de la Sultana", (the cypress garden of the wife of the Sultan). The garden was like a harem's garden, forbidden for men.
The "Sierra Nevada" is the highest mountain range on the Iberian Peninsula. The mountains are almost 3,500 meters high. From november until may you can see the snow shine on the mountain tops. In winter you can ski here, in summer you can go hiking in the National Park.
