Mauritshuis

The most famous museum in The Hague stands between Binnenhof and Plein. The Mauritshuis shows the great Dutch masters such as Rubens, Rembrandt and Bruegel, but the most famous painting in the collection is "The Girl with the Pearl Earring" by Johannes Vermeer.

Museum de Gevangenpoort

The "Museum de Gevangenpoort" is located in a former prison. The museum shows how prisoners lived in the Middle Ages. You can see the historical torture instruments of the prison. It provides a good insight into the cruel punishments of the Middle Ages, which unfortunately are still practiced in some countries.

Like most natural history museums, the "Museon" in The Hague is specialized on children. In addition to the obligatory dinosaurs, the museum also exhibits interesting topics about nature.

Escher Museum

Maurits Cornelis Escher was a Dutch artist who became famous with graphics based on optical illusions, such as stairs that lead down but arrive above or metamorphoses of birds. Very nice museum in the former palace of Queen Emma.

Museum Beelden aan Zee

The architect Wim Quist built the "Museum Beelden aan Zee" on the beach of Scheveningen, in a dune so that it is hardly visible from the outside. The bright rooms of exposed concrete, are perfect for sculptures.

Museum Voorlinden

On of the most famous museums in The Hague is the "Voorlinden Museum" in Wassenaar. Voorlinden is set in a large park with a country house dating from 1912, which now houses a restaurant. The museum Voorlinden shows modern art. A room was built especially for Richard Serra, another highlight seeing is the swimming pool of Leandro Erlich. The stairs into the pool are hidden, try to find them.

Museum in The Hague

There are several museums in The Hague that are well worth seeing. The most renowned is the Maurithuis, with a world famous picture of Vermeer. But the other museums are also worth a visit. I can highly recommend the Museum Voorlinden in Wassenaar.
