Deichtorhallen

The Deichtorhallen are an exhibition hall for contemporary art and photography. The former market halls were built in 1913 and are now a wonderful place for art exhibitions. The tall art nouveau halls made of steel and glass are the perfect place for art exhibitions. The old market hall was renovated and has been used for this purpose since 1989. The Deichtorhallen is located between the main train station and the Speicherstadt, the famous Chilehaus is also nearby. For opening times and current exhibitions check the link below.

Hamburger Kunsthalle

The "Hamburger Kunsthalle" consists of an historic building and the annex for contemporary art "Galerie der Gegenwart". From the old masters to new media, you can find it all at the "Kunsthalle".

The Speicherstadt Museum is an old warehouse from 1888. The Museum shows the history of the warehouses in Hamburg, the harbor and the products from all over the world.

The "Museum für Hamburgische Geschichte" is one of the best history museums in Germany. You can discover many models of the urban development of Hamburg, historic buildings and ships.

Museumschiff Rickmer Rickmers

The cargo tall ships was built in 1896 in Bremerhaven and went to Hong Kong to load rice. In 1916 the ship was seized by Britain and handed over to Portugal. In 1983 the ship was purchased by a club from Hamburg and extensively renovated. Since then the "Rickmer Rickmers" is moored on the pier and can be visited.

U-Boot Museum

The U-Boat Museum Hamburg has bought a Russian submarine of the "Tango class" built 1976. Visitors can explore the 90 m long spy boat or take a guided tour. The command center can only be visited by a guided tour. The submarine is located close to the fish market.

Internationales Maritimes Museum Hamburg

The "Maritime Museum" shows exhibitions on various topics on 9 decks. From the history of shipbuilding on navigation, colonialism to modern cargo vessels, you can discover it all here. Current exhibitions are posted on the museum's website.

The Hanseatic City of Hamburg has amassed a lot of wealth and collected considerable art treasures. The most important paintings can be found in the Hamburger Kunsthalle. The history of the city is presented in the "Hamburg Museum". The "Maritime Museum" is dedicated to the topic of seafaring. Some historical ships were saved as "museum ships" and can be viewed like the Rickmer Rickmers or the Submarine Museum.
